SkyLAN® Internet Service Features: Modem/Router - Depending on your connection type you will require a modem or a router. This equipment is necessary to connect your network to the Internet. SkyLAN provides all equipment and the support and maintenance to make it work. Gateway/Firewall - Security isn't an option with your SkyLAN Internet connection. We provide a Gateway that protects your network from unwanted and unauthorized access . Adjustable Connection Speed - Wired connections are usually at a fixed speed and require expensive upgrades to equipment when you need more bandwidth. With SkyLAN wireless you can increase the speed of your connection without any additional hardware, and in many cases while you are on the phone. Synchronous Connection - Many types of wired connections send and receive at different speeds. They are "Asynchronous". This is because they were developed assuming that the user would receive much more than they would send. This is not the case for a network connected business where many users will be sending information, email, quotations, etc. SkyLAN wireless is a "synchronous" connection, receive and send speeds are the same. Fixed IP Addresses - If you host your own email server or if you need to have employees access your network from home then you need a fixed IP address. Many wired connections charge an extra fee for fixed ip addresses. SkyLAN provides a fixed IP address and up to 3 more if required. Multiple VPN connections and "redirects" from the internet to any non-routable internal address are also supported. Distance Sensitivity - Many wired connectivity options are "distance limited", and their speed drops significatly as the distance increases. This might not be a problem if all of the business in an area were located close to the phone company Central Office, but they're not. The further your business is from the Central Office the weaker the connection and the poorer the performance. SkyLAN wireless delivers full speed, and full performance whether you business is next to the transmitter or several miles away. Email Service - Most connectivity packages include email for one or two users. Additional users require additional fees. SkyLAN wireless connections include hosting your domain email and include up to 25 virus scanned email boxes. Web Hosting - Most connectivity providers offer web site hosting as an option. SkyLAN wireless connections include web site hosting. We support all popular web site applications on multiple web servers. Our web servers are connect to the internet using multiple aggregated circuits to ensure high speed and reliability. No Additional Charges - Most connectivity packages require use of the local telephone company wires and incur additional charges for such use.
